EAU DE PARFUM The name of this lush, damp floral is derived from an Algonquian word meaning from both sides. Aétai is an atmospheric, immersive portrait of coastal woodland, trees washed with saline moist air. Droplets of soft water suspended from leaves, needles, petal edges, cobwebs, moss and lichen. The shock of salt, a seafarer accord is remarkable, the delicious inhale of briny sea air mingled with flower oxides, woods, wet stones, algae and more sombre moods created by complex accords of dark violet and black walnut. There is a wind-scoured, pollen-scattered iodine vibe to Aétai, wild iris clinging tenaciously to clifftops, immune to salt and bedded into the soil. In the mix is a parallel mood of old harbour, decaying wood, crumbling boats and rusted moorings. The stones are algae-stained, paths and edges reclaimed by an abundance of flora. The exhilaration of abandonment is beautiful; a fascinating feature of all the Source Adage perfumes is the implied absence of people, by forced design or just the inherent nature of wilderness. A gentle mist of ambergris settles over the final drydown in Aétai, lending the perfume a beautifully melancholic ending. A walk along forested shores.
