Afghanite typically forms as blue to blue-green crystals, but can also occur in white, colorless, or yellowish varieties. Additionally, Afghanite often contains inclusions of white calcite, leading to its characteristic mottled or streaked blue-white appearance. It was first discovered in 1968 in Afghanistan, hence its name. Afghanite is also found in other locations around the world, including Italy, Russia, and Canada, but the most prized specimens still come from Afghanistan.
