Non-toxic, all-purpose primer for interior and exterior use Cold Weather AlertThis product may not perform properly if applied below the required temperature. Please check installation instructions on our website. Because this is a water-based product, it may freeze during shipping. For that reason we will not ship over a weekend if temperatures dip below 32 degrees F. If you want us to ship anyway, it will be at your own risk. Use over oil-based paints and stains in order to transition to water-based top coats. This primer is designed for applications, indoors or outdoors, over previously painted walls, ceilings, wood and wood trim, fully cured plaster (below 10 pH), stucco, and masonry. For new sheetrock, use AFM's New Wallboard Primecoat HPV. For raw wood surfaces, use AFM's Ecolacq Sandable Primer. While this primer has a low odor when wet, it dissipates quickly as long as the temperature and humidity are normal, i.e. 50-80 degrees F and 30-65% relative humidity. Should the temperature be much lower or the humidity much higher, the curing of this product could take much much longer. While it dries to the touch quickly, full cure can take up to two weeks when conditions are other than normal. NOTE: must dry 24 hours before applying top coats. NOTE: This primer should not be used over wood with tannins that will bleed through such as cedar, pine, or other oily woods. Because it has an extremely tight and efficient polymer network, AFM Transitional Primer can be used as a sealer on some, but not all, surfaces that are off-gassing hazardous air pollutants. In combination with AFM Safecoat Zero VOC Paint, emissions can substantially, if not completely be eliminated gradually over the course of one to two weeks. AFM recommends one coat of Transitional primer (allow 24 hours to dry) and then two top coats of AFM Zero VOC paint. NOTE: This combination will not block emissions from essential oils, air fresheners, hair spray, smoke, pet urine, or other organic odors. Testing with small samples is your responsibility and must be done first to make sure there is proper adhesion, and appearance and that there is no reaction with a previous finish, especially if it is unknown. Green Building Supply makes no guarantees that this will perform well over all paints or all finishes and takes no responsibility for applications that have not been tested first or have not followed the manufacturers directions. [tabs] Why We Like It This is an excellent primer for indoor or outdoor applications. Unlike most other primers it has the unique ability to seal and encapsulate toxic VOC emissions underneath it. Transitional primer works best when combined with AFM Safecoat Zero VOC Paint. Using a different brand of paint on top (even if zero VOC) will not have the same blocking effect. Features & benefits Superior quality, highly durable paint — fast-curing; designed for interior surfaces Solves problems — transitions from oil to water-based top coats Protects indoor air quality — in combination with two coats of AFM Zero VOC paint, it encapsulates coatings emitting VOCs underneath it and stops off-gassing Odorless when dried — full cure is 1-2 weeks depending upon temp and humidity Safe — for everyone, including the chemically sensitive; learn how to test a non-toxic product for tolerance Non-toxic — contains no aromatic solvents, formaldehyde, ethylene glycol, ammonia, acetone, heavy metals, crystalline silica, alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs), or other carcinogenic or hazardous materials Eco-friendly — ultra low VOC NOTE: If you're using it as a sealer, be sure to wait at least 24 hours before applying a top coat.
