To be completely honest, this painting makes me uncomfortable and the process was the same. I thought introducing more colour and a couple of illustrative elements would undo the grimness I feel looking at the skulls but here we are. You might be wondering 'well, why Halima did you paint it in the first place then?' To that I say, I was fine when I started it but then I played Netflix's The Ed Gein Story in the background and the entire experience transformed. But, if you quite like skull art - and with a bit more colour than was used by Cézanne over a century ago - then this might be for you. Skulls after all do represent a lot more across many cultures.
