After Joseph is a charcoal drawing inspired by the artist’s younger brother, a 16-year-old ballet dancer who attends a boys’ school and keeps his practice largely private. The work reflects the gap between his private and public selves, placing the figure in liminal spaces between childhood and adulthood, strength and fragility, visibility and secrecy. It explores what it means to love something that is not always safe to show, and stands as an ode to his determination, resilience and passion. Show more
