The AFUL Performer 5+2 is a tribrid, meaning it mixes three kinds of driver: two dynamic drivers for the bass, four balanced armatures for the mids, and a micro-planar tweeter, a tiny flat driver, for the finest top-end detail. You'll see it sold as the Performer 7 in some markets and the Performer 5+2 in others, and it's the same earphone either way.The second dynamic driver gives it depth and speed down low, with sub-bass that reaches deep without spreading into the mids, and the micro-planar brings out the small clicks, textures and reverb tails in electronic music. The balance is even with some energy behind it, which makes it a good all-rounder for electronic, pop and rock, and nothing turns shouty even with the volume up.The tradeoff is warmth. If you want a cosy, thick sound for lazy evenings, this is too clean and too even for that. At 15 Ω and 109 dB it's very easy to drive, so a basic dongle is all it needs.
