What makes it special:Spring has returned to Maple Valley, but the woodland families know winter will eventually come again. Players spend the seasons gathering food and materials, trading goods, building Improvements, and crafting the cozy Comforts that will make their dens ready for winter. Each round, players roll their family dice and send their animal workers to different locations around the valley. The available dice help determine what resources those workers will be able to gather, so players must think carefully about which spaces best support their plans. Maybe you need wood for an Improvement, mushrooms for a recipe, or several different resources to complete a particularly valuable Comfort. You may have more things you want to make than you can realistically accomplish, which means deciding what matters most. That creates an approachable introduction to resource management and prioritization. Players begin asking questions such as: What should I collect now? Which project should I work toward? Is it worth changing my plan based on this round’s dice? Can one trip help me accomplish several goals? There is randomness in the dice, but players are not simply waiting for a lucky roll.
