Agon is a classic 2-player strategy game with an hexagonal board, possibly the first strategy game ever devised on a grid of hexes. Players pursue a positional goal with precise mo vement rules. Pieces taken by custodial capture are returned to the game, not eliminated. Invented in England by William Peacock, a wealthy aristocrat who never sought to capitalize on his invention, Agon wasn’t commercially produced until around 1873.
