This is POJ Studio's first collaboration with the indigenous Ainu community of Hokkaido, Japan. We worked with Kayano Kimihiro, the founder of Nibutani Works, a company dedicated to creating sustainable jobs for young Ainu artisans and preserving Ainu crafts for the next generation. Together with Mr. Kayano and designer Hase Yuka, we created this blanket and our Ainu Noren. The design of these products incorporates traditional Ainu patterning. The blanket is decadent to the touch, delightfully warm and cozy, perfect for weathering the colder months. Its generous size allows for bundling up alone or with another. We care deeply about our partnership with the Ainu community, and are passionate about fostering opportunities that help preserve the rich craft traditions that are part of their heritage.
