Air plants are epiphytes in the Bromeliad family, meaning they naturally grow on other plants or structures (like trees or rocks) rather than in soil. They are native to forests, m ountains, and deserts of Central and South America. They are characterized by their rigid or soft foliage, often covered in fuzzy, silvery scales called trichomes, which are used to absorb water and nutrients from the air. Air plants do flower, producing colorful spikes and often fragrant blooms before the main rosette begins to produce offsets.
