In 1951, Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi created Akari Light Sculptures—an art series crafted from washi paper and bamboo. With over 100 light sculptures of the table, floor , and ceiling varieties, the collection was dubbed Akari, a Japanese word for light and clarity. Each lamp is produced diligently in the Ozeki workshop, a Gifu-based family business. These paper lanterns have gained global fame among design aficionados for their distinctive and whimsical shapes.
