Alginates are non-woven absorbent dressings derived from seaweed. Placed into the wound in a dry form, they absorb exudate to form a hydrophilic gel whilst maintaining a moist woun d interface. Alginates also possess haemostatic properties and are therefore particularly useful in bleeding wounds.
