The single ‘Upside Down’ opens with a flourish of bright synths and energetic percussion, with Natalie’s distinctive lilt floating above. As she reaches the chorus, it grows brighter – kaleidoscopic, shimmering – and we hear her relinquishing control, and ultimately finding clarity in a song which came from a feeling of shame surrounding her mental health. Following the Top 10 comeback achieved with 2021’s ‘Firebird’, ‘Algorithm’ is a record in which Natalie is reinvigorated and raring to go - apt reward for pushing herself creatively with confessional themes of vulnerability and funding the project entirely independently.
