Album IntroductionRaindancing is the second solo studio album by Alison Moyet, born Genevieve Alison Jane Moyet in Billericay, Essex and formerly one half of Yazoo (with Vince Clarke), released in 1987 on CBS Records and produced by Tony Swain and Steve Jolley (Jolley & Swain). The album reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned three UK Top 50 singles. Is This Love? reached UK No. 3, Weak in the Presence of Beauty reached UK No. 6 and Ordinary Girl reached UK No. 43. Moyet's voice — one of the most powerful, soulful and immediately distinctive in British pop — is at the centre of every track, and Jolley & Swain's production gives the album a warm, polished mid-1980s pop sound that showcases her range and emotional directness to complete commercial effect. The 10-track album demonstrates the full breadth of Moyet's musical personality, from the driving pop of Weak in the Presence of Beauty and Is This Love? to the more reflective and emotionally complex Without You and Stay.Stand-Out Tracks Is This Love? — The album's most immediately emotionally resonant and commercially effective single; a warm, mid-tempo pop track with a lyric of romantic uncertainty and a vocal performance from Moyet of complete emotional directness and conviction. UK No. 3. Weak in the Presence of Beauty — A driving, melodically irresistible pop track that gives the album one of its most energetic and immediately compelling moments; Moyet's vocal is completely assured and the Jolley & Swain production gives the song a contemporary sheen of complete commercial precision. UK No. 6. Without You — One of the album's most emotionally direct and vocally impressive ballads; a slow, atmospheric pop song that gives Moyet the opportunity to demonstrate the full power and expressiveness of her voice in a context of sustained romantic longing. Ordinary Girl — A warm, mid-tempo pop track that gives the album one of its most melodically generous and immediately accessible moments; Moyet's vocal is at its most intimate and the production gives the song a lightness and warmth that suits the album's more reflective register. UK No. 43. Stay — The album's closing track and its most emotionally expansive; a slow, atmospheric ballad that brings the album to a conclusion of genuine emotional weight and gives Moyet one of her most quietly extraordinary vocal moments on the record.
