Sometimes, during deep levels of meditation, the body experiences feelings of sinking and floating. This echoes the experience of floating in the ocean, being rocked up and down by the waves. Inspired by this relationship, Brianna Lance created the Waves series. Her creative process was a meditation practice in and of itself, as she methodically painted the linear patterns within each wave. Lance’s continued series of watercolor paintings work with the sky to evolve the series forward while still using the repetitive and meditative elements from the original wave works. The sun's simple shapes add a minimal element to give the waves context, and the clouds have hidden faces in them, creating a dream-like character across the work. Show more
