Native to West India, Allspice plants produce small brown berries, similar in appearance to black peppercorns but somewhat larger, that are dried to create sweet and spicy spheres popular in Middle Eastern and Caribbean dishes. The English coined the name "Allspice" because they believed it carried the flavors of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg simultaneously.
