Scientific Name: Alocasia tandarusaCommon Name: Alocasia Jacklyn, Alocasia Sulawesi, Elephant’s Ear, Taro Alocasias originate in tropical regions in Asia, South Pacific and Eastern Australia. They are known for their arrow- or heart-shaped foliage with unique color variations and striking vein colorations. Alocasia are fairly fast-growing and when they are happy in their environment, they can add multiple new leaves and grow up to 1-2 inches in height in one month. In the wild, some alocasia varieties can get up to 10-15 feet in size with leaves up to 36 inches wide when they are fully mature! The Jacklyn variety of Alocasia has distinctive light brown stems with purple markings (similar to the Zebrina variety), and textured, serrated dark green arrow-shaped leaves. The Jacklyn Alocasia is a staff favorite around here! Basic Care Notes: Well draining soil, such as a cactus mix or a blend of soil mixed with amendments to help improve drainage such as orchid bark, perlite, vermiculite or peat moss. Keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Allow the first 2-3 inches of soil to dry out in between waterings. Alocasias don’t like their soil to dry out completely but don’t like “wet feet” so don’t let your alocasia sit in water! ***Due to the unique nature of plants, the one we carefully choose for you won't look exactly like the photos, but it will be just as beautiful! ** For shipping during the cooler weather months you MUST add a heat pack to your purchase if the temperatures are below 55 degrees at any point.
