And Ha means "breath of life". When the two terms are joined, they mean "Hello", "Welcome", "See you soon" or " love you" and form the greeting the Hawaiian natives give to their visitors, along with a garland of flowers as a token of welcome. The same ceremony takes place at the moment of departure to cheer up the leaving of Waikiki beach. The garlands are often made from plumeria flowers whose subtle fragrance is said to drive away care!
