DESCRIPTION: Al's Anorak is a modern take on the classic design, with a focus on comfort and utility. We love that our Anorak has been on TV a bunch. It's a favorite among the participants in History Channel's Mountain Men and Survival Contest ALONE. The WeatherWool Anorak has been worn on History by Mike Horstman, Brady Nicholls, Benji Hill, JP Quiñonez, Callie Russel, Amós Rodriguez, and others. It's also worn by hundreds of people in the United States Military as well as the Military of Allies of the USA. The Anorak is a design of the first inhabitants of North America's Arctic Region. Our Finnish Advisor Anton Kalland tells us the term comes from the Finnish Anorakki, which in turn comes from the Ancient Greenland word Annoraaq. FIT GUIDE: Standard Fit with enough room for light to moderate layering. SIZE CHART: PLEASE check the size charts and hopefully we get it right first time but sizing can be tricky and we'll work it out Sizing is often based on preference ... a man of 5'11 (180 cm), 180 pounds (82 kg) may wear a size Medium comfortably over a T-Shirt and typical light shirt. But the same person may also choose Large to enable more layering. Fit varies depending on your objectives, which is why we recommend measuring a garment you already have that fits the way you want, and compare those measurements to our size chart. Hood is large enough to protect from weather regardless of wind direction ... even head-on wind Two zippered chest pockets, right side pocket has a cellphone sleeve Wrap-around straps enable six sizing adjustments for cuffs Sleeves can be "let out" as much as 3 inches (7.5 cm) to accommodate long arms Waist cinch inside garment to reduce airflow or just snug waist Hidden internal pocket behind the kangaroo pocket One-piece construction for Hood and rear panel of garment Milspec water-resistant thread throughout Signature slot buttons WeatherWool is always MADE IN USA 100% VERSATILITY: Our Anorak handles a wide variety of conditions and activities and is designed for a relatively active individual to wear over one or sometimes two light base layers. The Anorak is intended for temperatures between 10F/-12C to 80F/27C. But people push it, successfully, into much colder conditions. Most people will be comfortable in temperatures from 20F/-7C to 70F/21C, indoors and out, with low to moderate levels of activity and one or two light base layers. The FullWeight Anorak is better at lower temps and the MidWeight better at higher temps. Choosing the best fabric weight and garment size will depend on your climate, activity level, base layers, and personal preference. The MidWeight Anorak over one or two light layers is enough for Ralph/me for almost all of New Jersey's cool and cold weather if I'm moving around. But if I'm going to SIT/stationary outside for hours in sub-freezing temps, I'll wear more. ANECDOTES: Because the side zips of the Anorak accommodate the changing figure of an expectant Mom, we have a MATERNITY page. I find a mid-weight anorak over a light T-Shirt to be completely comfortable for a long day of travel. Sometimes, security will accept the Anorak as a shirt, and I don't have to take it off. And of course, the Hood, with or without a hat, helps for catching Zs. One very frequent traveler told me that, since he got his Anorak, he sleeps in the airport instead of getting a hotel room for long layovers. It's also good that the seat belts of a car or plane can be worn UNDER the front panel of the Anorak, so you have access to anything in the pouch. The Hood is big enough to protect the face from weather coming from any direction. If you keep your head down, you can even walk directly into a sleet-laden, head-on wind without getting the weather in your face. All our Hoods can do this. We're always planning more Anoraks, tho, and hopefully will open pre-orders for FullWeight Lynx and FullWeight Black in September, for December delivery. All pieces in the current production will be made with Batch Innes-1 Fabric. (The specs for Innes-1 are the same WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool as always, but all the fiber is sourced from the Innes Family Ranch in Wyoming.)
