Five minutes of light in four days. But they were a spectacular five minutes. The remote Fair Isle, Shetland, is home to a spectacular puffin colony. Puffin season runs from May to July, which coincides with sunrise times of around 5am. After four days of constant cloud cover, waking up at 4am seemed a pointless exercise. The effort was rewarded however, due to a thin band of clear sky on the horizon, allowing the first warm tones of the day to catch the wave tips behind. The cloudy sky soon swallowed the sun back up.
