Amelia Hughes is a proud 15-year-old with ancestral ties to the Guwa/Koa, Gundungara, Yuin and Dharawal peoples. Born on Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi Country and now living on Jinibara Country, Amelia has been part of the GATHAA community since the very beginning. Amelia is our GATHAA Jarjums Coordinator, facilitating the Jarjums creative space at our markets each month. With patience, care and a beautiful creative spirit, she welcomes children and families into the space, guides activities and encourages both jarjums and adults to get involved, create and connect. She has become an important part of our market team and a familiar face to many of our GATHAA families. Outside GATHAA, Amelia is a passionate student, musician and active community contributor. She plays violin and viola, sings in school choirs and performs regularly with orchestras and ensembles. She also shares her music and poetry at ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies each year in honour of those who served. Music holds a special place in Amelia’s life. You’ll often find her playing violin by the creek near her home, accompanied by the sounds of the birds around her. Through GATHAA, Amelia is now building on her experience in creative facilitation, community engagement, event delivery and performance. After contributing behind the scenes and supporting our Jarjums month after month, seeing her step forward and share more of her own talents is something we’re incredibly proud of. Amelia represents so much of what GATHAA Next Gen is here to support — young mob having the space to participate, learn, contribute, lead and discover where their talents can take them. 💛
