That is what a base-plate design buys you. With no overhead beam tying the columns together, the structure stops not far above the carriage travel, and a capacity normally needing a tall commercial bay fits a garage with an ordinary ceiling. The second thing worth knowing: the distance between the columns is a decision you make at installation, not a number you inherit. The BP-12 sets up at either 118 1/8″ (3000 mm) or 123 1/2″ (3137 mm), and that choice changes both the vehicles it takes and the floor it needs. What a base plate gives you, and what it costs In a base-plate lift, the hydraulic and cable runs that synchronise the two columns cross the floor inside a plate you drive over, rather than through a beam over your head. The difference sounds like nothing until a wide-bodied pickup must be centred between the columns with its doors still openable. Take the wider setting for full-size trucks, the narrower one if floor width is tight and your work is mostly cars. Decide before installation — the columns are anchored to the slab. Arms, pads and the parts that wear The BP-12 carries four three-stage arms, which telescope from the pinch welds on a short car to the frame points on a long-wheelbase truck without swapping hardware.
