Over time, the corm produces multiple offsets, forming new “pup” growths and gradually creating a larger clump.Each spring, the plant sends up a single large leaf that grows throughout the warm season, feeding the corm before naturally going dormant for several months. After years of this cycle, mature corms can produce a spectacular flower reaching up to 5 feet tall. The bloom emits a strong odor of rotting meat to attract its natural pollinators: flies and carrion beetles.These plants generally reach blooming size once the corm is approximately baseball-sized. Once mature, they tend to flower every 2–3 years between foliage cycles.
