Anathema had already been quietly dismantling their doom metal foundations for a few records, but Judgement is where they finally walked out the door entirely, and somehow made something more devastating than anything they'd done before.This is the album that sits in the uncomfortable space between gothic metal and art rock, where the riffs are gone but the weight remains. Songs like Destiny and Deep pull from a well that's closer to Pink Floyd and later Talk Talk than anything on the Peaceville Three roster. It's melancholy that doesn't perform itself.
