The Manta Ray, one of the oceans most profound, majestic creatures. Their species display a level of intelligence that is attributed to their significant brain to body ratio. The largest of any species of shark or ray discovered to date. 'Angel' was photographed while working with the Ningaloo Manta Project to capture identification images of the Manta Rays underside. Also known as a 'belly shot' these images are used to identify the individual spot patterns located on the rays belly. As I returned to the surface for breath, this individual followed me to the surface, almost eye to eye. A prime example of instinctual curiosity that to us humans, can make Manta Ray interactions so special.
