Angelite sometimes referred to as Blue Anhydrite comes from the Greek word, anhydrous, meaning, “without water.” That is a reference to the stone’s unique physical property, as a d ehydrated gypsum. The Angelite crystal only develops in areas where gypsum crystals once had contact with water. Over millions of years, the water evaporates, and the gypsum crystals get compressed, resulting in the formation of Angelite. These pieces are polished into the shape of a sphere.
