More Info Native Americans have traditionally used plants like bindweed to support the health of the skin, which was especially important under the harsher living conditions of times past. Although we do not know of modern research supporting this use of field bindweed, we recognize that field bindweed’s traditional value may have involved its component proteoglycans. PGM’s activity may depend upon its ability to change the biological balance between specific cytokines, such as interleukin 8 and platelet activating factor 4. Excess secretion of cytokines from specific cells can speed their neovascularization and growth. Proteoglycan proteins can bind and inactivate the above mentioned cytokines. In our review of the properties of PGM, it appears to be an effective support of the body’s own immune defenses. The bindweed used as the source of the PGM in AngioBlock is grown in Wyoming. It is a non-toxic extract, as the toxic alkaloids are removed by a proprietary process.
