Big Red is a magnificent kangaroo paw that makes a bold architectural statement in the garden. Strappy green leaves grow to around 250mm long, forming a neat clump at the base, while impressive flower spikes can soar up to 2 metres tall, creating dramatic vertical impact. The clusters of vivid tomato-red flowers, each up to 40mm long, are carried high above the foliage and provide a spectacular display from late spring through to mid-summer. The velvety blooms are rich in nectar, making them highly attractive to nectar-feeding birds and a wonderful addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. For best results, plant in a sunny position with well-drained soil. An annual application of a low-phosphorus Australian native fertiliser after flowering will support healthy growth and strong flowering.
