Pharmacology and Clinical Studies: The oestrogenic activity of anethole is well documented. Anethole is a methyl ether of oestrone, and seems to have potent oestrogenic activity. Research suggests that the active oestrogenic compounds are polymers of anethole such as dianethole and photoanethole. Anethole has been reported to exhibit spasmolytic propertes, to stimulate respiratory secretions and expectoration. Indications: Digestive System: It is well known for its effect on the digestive system as a carminative, digestive and an antispasmodic. It may be used to relieve dyspepsia, colic and flatulence. Reproductive System: It may be used to increase the milk flow of nursing mothers. However, for this purpose, a herbal infusion of the crushed seeds is preferred.
