Ann McDonald 1788 Ann was eight years old when she used a coarsely woven, homespun ground cloth, and thick fibers to complete her band sampler. The addition of the “r” in “daughter ” placed above the word, at the very end of the row, provides a charming quirkiness to the sampler. Ann’s multiple stitching mistakes and grammatical errors make her sampler even more endearing to the modern needleworker or current-day sampler collector. Very little information is known about Ann. It is unclear if Ann married, whether she had children, or when she died.
