Provenance Original to c.1900, this French made ruby ring is a rare example of Art Nouveau craftsmanship. A short-lived but widely loved movement, Art Nouveau celebrated nature, cr aftsmanship and the fluidity of the 'free' line, known as 'the whiplash'. All three of these elements are present here in this ring. Set to centre with a natural ruby boasting a richly saturated crimson-red, oval-cut and secured by a rub-over setting. Surrounded by intricately carved gold-work design of tendrils which swirl around the central stone and cross over one-another. Further adorned with subtle granulation work and ridged striped detail. Bearing the French hallmarks for 18ct yellow gold on the exterior of the band.
