The locket is rectangular (1.9cm x 2.6cm) with an old cushion cut diamond set into the case, and a wonderfully decorative engine turned pattern. The reverse is plain except for a partial Chester hallmark indicating it was made between 1918-20. Someone has also etched (very small) 1937 AD on the locket, perhaps a gifted date, but the locket's hallmark date is earlier than that. Inside the locket are two spaces for photographs of loved ones, and the interior fittings can be very gently manipulated to remove the frame and existing old photograph should you wish. Overall the locket is in a good condition commensurate with age. There are some dents to the case (front and back) but given this is an incredibly well-made piece of jewellery, it has weathered the last 100 years extremely well. All-in-all a solid and beautiful piece of history that we are selling without a chain - the chain in our photos is just to show you how the locket looks on the neck. You will need a chain that is at least 4 grams in weight to keep this locket safe, and you should note that the internal bail size is just short of 4mm
