c. 1910s-1920s; Economy Drawing Table Co. - Toledo, OH Monumental quarter-sawn oak flat file cabinet manufactured by the Economy Drawing Table Company of Toledo, Ohio. Designed for the storage and organization of architectural drawings, engineering plans, maps, blueprints, and large-format documents, the cabinet is constructed as a stacked modular unit comprised of four drawer sections beneath a fitted top. The cabinet retains its original japanned copper cup pulls and decorative label holders throughout, complemented by cast iron display-case style feet. Each shallow drawer is fitted with birch dividers, allowing oversized documents to be stored either full-width or separated into two compartments. The rich oak grain is particularly evident across the drawer fronts and paneled sides, while the substantial scale and modular construction reflect the high-quality commercial furnishings produced for drafting rooms, engineering offices, and industrial firms during the early twentieth century. Economy specialized in drafting room furniture, flat files, blueprint cabinets, and related furnishings throughout the early part of the 20th century before being bought out by Hamilton. Shows moderate wear consistent with age and professional use including scattered scratches, finish wear, edge wear, and staining to the top surface. Hardware remains present throughout and drawers slide smoothly.
