c. 1920s; Hartmann Trunk Co. - Racine, WI Early 20th-century Cushion Top wardrobe trunk by Hartmann, finished in deep green canvas with black leather banding and brass hardware. This steamer-style travel trunk opens to reveal a full fitted interior, complete with a bank of drawers, hanging compartment with extendable rods and wooden hangers, and a collapsible hat holder beneath the lid. Retains its matching green patterned fabric lining throughout, with Hartmann's signature maker's label intact and period travel decals referencing Cunard Line and Liverpool destinations. Founded in 1877 in Milwaukee and later headquartered in Racine, Wisconsin, Hartmann became one of America's most prestigious trunk manufacturers-producing high-quality luggage favored by luxury travelers and steamship passengers for its craftsmanship, reinforced corners, and functional compartmentalization. This trunk's previous owner was John B. Moyes who was born in Scotland, but eventually made his way stateside to settle in Elyria, OH. Exhibits signs of wear consistent with age and likely turbulent overseas steamer shipping. Some rust is present, especially on the brass corners of the trunk. NOTE: there is a key included with this trunk, however the truck will be shipped open and unlocked.
