Early 20th Century; Maker Unknown - American Foundry Model A finely made foundry or apprentice demonstration small-scale horizontal steam engine featuring a cast iron frame finished in industrial red with exposed brass fittings and dual flywheels. The cylinder housing includes an open-sided design revealing the piston rod and crosshead in motion, while the front is fitted with an adjustable brass valve assembly and coupling. Its overbuilt construction with flanged cylinder ends, machined bolts, and milled base reflects the same mechanical precision as full-size factory engines of the period. Such models were often produced in technical schools, foundries, or small shops during the late 19th to early 20th century as salesman samples, proofs of skill, and/or instructional tools for machinists. Exhibits some minor wear such as chipped paint.
