This is a miniature brass pocket sextant, measuring about 3 inches in diameter. These compact versions of the traditional nautical sextant were often carried as portable navigation al tools or used for quick surveying work in the field. The circular design with a rotating arm, mirrored optics inside, and a protective screw-on case makes it very practical for travel compared to the larger framed sextants used aboard ships. Key features: Brass construction with knurled adjustment knobs. Circular form factor with a folding index arm and engraved arc up to 120°. Internal optics with small mirrors, though some wear and patina are evident. No visible maker’s mark – likely late 19th to early 20th century, possibly English or French.
