Provenance Original to c.1900, this late Victorian five-stone features an impressive set of five natural precious white opals with incredible play-of-colour. They have been carefully graduated in size, with the largest central opal weighing approximately 0.61ct, the smallest 0.12ct. The overall proportions of the ring are very flattering on the finger. The opals have an evenly distributed play-of-colour with the predominant iridescence colour being a bright orangey-pink with smaller flashes of green. The style of this ring is known as the carved half-hoop, which was popular from the late Victorian period and well into the Edwardian era. The opals are all claw-set above an intricately carved gallery with fleur-de-lys style motifs and scrollwork. The shoulders are engraved with refined ridged detail, effortlessly flowing through to a solid 18ct yellow gold D-shape shank.
