Provenance A beautiful and highly unusual Victorian rhodolite garnet three-stone ring, c.1880. Set to centre with an impressive oval shaped cushion cut rhodolite garnet with a stunning plum-like colour. Rhodolite is the name given to purplish-pink garnets prized for their rich, luminous colour and exceptional clarity. Rhodolite’s name is derived from the Greek rhodon, meaning “rose,” a fitting reference to its distinctive hues, which range from delicate raspberry and rose-pink to deep purplish-red. Rhodolite are particularly rare compared to the usual deep reds and browns of other garnets. Flanked by two further rhodolite garnets, perfectly matched in colour, tone and clarity. Claw and grain set in an ornate 9ct rose gold three-stone ring design. The band bears the maker’s mark 'BHJ', for Barnet Henry Joseph & Co., an esteemed manufacturer jeweller based in Birmingham between 1865 to 1929.
