Greta von Nessen's Anywhere Lamp, introduced in 1951, exemplifies the elegance, ingenuity, and practicality of pos twar American modernism. Designed for flexibility, the lamp could be placed "anywhere": on a table, mounted on the wall, or suspended from the ceiling. Its rounded metal shade pivots within a slender tubular frame, allowing light to be directed with ease while preserving the lamp's clean, balanced profile. Available in a wide range of colors for its rerelease, the design brings renewed energy to a mid-century icon without losing the clarity and versatility that made it enduring. Greta von Nessen, born in Sweden and trained in Stockholm, immigrated to the United States in the 1920s and later continued the work of Nessen Studios after the death of her husband, Walter von Nessen. The Anywhere Lamp remains her best-known design and was honored in the U.S. Postal Service's Pioneers of American Industrial Design stamp series, which celebrated designers who helped shape the look of modern American life.
