This original 1896 illustrated document by Alphonse Mucha was created for the June issue of Figaro Illustré, a special edition devoted to Les Cafés-Concerts. Traditionally known as Bravo, the composition captures the energy and sophistication of Parisian entertainment during the Belle Époque. Rather than showing the performance itself, Mucha focuses on a fashionable spectator standing beneath the trees and applauding an unseen artist. Her raised hands and animated expression form the emotional centre of the image. Dressed in a pale, extravagantly ruffled blouse and crowned with an elaborate floral headdress, she appears almost theatrical herself.
