Saint Paul the Apostle, was formerly Saul of Tarsus, a zealous persecutor of Christians who was converted by a divine encounter with the risen Christ on the road to Damascus. After his conversion, he became one of the greatest missionaries of the Church, preaching the Gospel throughout the Roman Empire and writing many of the Epistles of the New Testament before suffering martyrdom in Rome.
