The Appenzeller Silver Spitzhauben is a small to Medium sized bird, very active foragers, lay a large egg for the size of the breed and lots of eggs. Spitzhauben are a cold hardy b reed. The Appenzeller Spitzhauben comes from Northwest Switzerland near the German and Austrian border. The first Spitzhauben came to the US after World War II when a German prisoner of war who spent time in a military detention camp in Alabama returned to the US to gain citizenship, he brought with him some hatching eggs and those chicks that hatched became the foundation stock of the Spitzhauben in the US. The Spitzhauben are a non-broody bird that lays lots of white eggs. This is one of our best egg producers on the farm. Chicks are sold straight run. ATTENTION: Spitzhauben chicks are sold straight run! We require orders of a minimum of 10-day old chicks. These 10 can be a mix of any of our breeds. This keeps the babies warm and healthy in the box. We guarantee live delivery of 10 or more chicks.
