An heirloom English russet apple from the 1700s, ‘Ashmead’s Kernel’ is crisp and aromatic with a rich balance of sweetness and acidity and layers of complex flavour. Ashmead’s Kern el is not pretty, but beneath its russeted and misshapen skin it hides a dense, juicy flesh that far surpasses modern apples for flavour and complexity. Ashmead’s Kernel ripens in late October and it stores remarkably well, often improving in flavour as it stores.
