Liberty apples are a great choice for the Pacific Northwest. Liberty results from a cross between a crab apple (strong disease resistance) and a domestic apple. The resulting offsp ring, Liberty and Freedom, proved to have enhanced hardiness and disease resistance to both mildew and scab. This variety is a great choice for organic gardeners. The apples ripen in early October and store well into the winter. Liberty apples have an attractive burgundy red smooth and polished skin. The flavour is intense with a fine balance of sweet and tart. Popular as a dessert apple but also useful for cooking where it holds its shape when cooked. Partially self fertile. Mini dwarf. Show more
