One of the first varieties that we used for espalier in our orchard. We have not been disappointed! The fruit is small and sweet and great for polishing to glossy sheen. It has bri ght crimson skin and pure white flesh. Spartan is best when enjoyed directly from the tree usually in mid September. Of all the trees we grow, it is probably the most productive, the easiest to train and very satisfying to eat. If you are hesitating because you don’t like McIntosh style apples, you must realise that there is a world of difference between a homegrown mac and the store bought version.
