Zestar is a relatively new breed of apple from Minniesota. Zestar ripens early, usually in August or early September. Unlike many early season apples, it has a crisp texture combin ed with juiciness and flavour. Also, unlike most early season apples, it has good storage capacity and will last for several months in the fridge. Zestar apples are small to medium sized with rounded fruit. The fruit has a base colour of green with a beautiful red flush where it is exposed to the sun. Along with Northern Spy, and Honeycrisp, it is a good choice for colder climates or higher elevations.
