Arbutus unedo offers a unique display of flowers and fruits at the same, making it a very special and attractive addition to a garden. The pendulous clusters of urn-shaped white flowers appear in late autumn. The bright red fruits take 12 months to ripen and both appear on the tree together. This evergreen plant also features an attractive shredding rich terracotta brown bark which is highly ornamental. Deep-green leaves adorn the branches all-year round. The Strawberry Tree can be grown as a tree or a bush, making it very versatile and suitable for a number of different garden and patio settings. This tree is fully hardy and wind resistant, making it ideal for ideal exposed coastal settings as well as urban areas. It can tolerate most soil types including acid and alkaline but does best in fertile well-drained soils. The Strawberry tree has a spreading form, reaching 6m height and 5m spread in 20 years.
