Most paper falls apart under oil paint — soaked through, yellowed, and brittle within years. Arches oil paper is different. Mould-made in Lorraine from 100% cotton and specially si zed to resist oil penetration, it takes oil paint directly without priming, grounding, or any of the usual preparation you would need for canvas or linen. The result is a surface with genuine tooth that holds paint well, dries flat, and can be worked back into while wet. At 300gsm it is substantial enough to survive scraping and reworking.
