Arches has been making watercolour paper in Lorraine, France since 1492 — which means they had already been at it for nearly 500 years before bradburyART opened in Belfast. That ki nd of heritage does not happen by accident. The watercolour blocks are mould-made from 100% cotton, sized with gelatine on both sides, and cold-pressed, hot-pressed, or rough-surfaced depending on the texture you want to work on. The block format is the practical choice for working away from the studio. Sheets are glued on all four edges and held flat under tension, so you can paint wet-on-wet without the paper buckling underneath you. When the work is dry, you run a palette knife along the ungummed edge and lift the sheet cleanly. Available in nine sizes and three surfaces. 300gsm throughout. Show more
