Ariana Hops for Black Currant, Berry, and Modern German Aroma Ariana is a German-grown hop, offered here in standard T-90 pellet form and known for bringing modern fruit-forward character to the German hop lineup. Developed by the Hop Research Center Hüll and commercially released in the mid-2010s after an earlier cross made in 2010, Ariana was bred from Herkules and a wild male hop to create a variety with both strong brewing utility and a more contemporary aroma profile. Lot-specific flavor and aroma notes may include Pears, Black Currants, Peach. That breeding background helps explain why Ariana stands apart from more traditional German hop expectations. Rather than leaning only noble, herbal, or restrained, Ariana pushes further into berry, currant, and citrus territory while still feeling structured enough to work across a wide range of beer styles. It is a good example of how modern German breeding has expanded into more expressive aroma and dual-purpose hopping. Flavor and Brewing Character Ariana is known for black currant, berry, and citrus character, backed by passion fruit, pineapple, and light floral notes such as jasmine. It offers a brighter and more fruit-driven profile than many brewers expect from a German variety, which makes it especially appealing when a recipe needs both freshness and a slightly different aromatic signature. In the brewhouse, Ariana is well suited to late additions, dry hopping, and dual-purpose use. It fits naturally in IPAs, pale ales, lagers, and pilsners, especially when a brewer wants fruit-forward hop aroma without losing the cleaner structure often associated with German-grown hops. Why Brewers Choose Ariana Brewers looking for a more modern German hop often turn to Ariana because it delivers berry and currant notes with enough citrus and tropical character to feel versatile in contemporary recipes. It is a strong option when you want something more distinctive than a classic noble hop, but still grounded enough to use across both modern ales and cleaner lager styles.
